From his beginnings working on homes as a high-schooler in Naperville, IL to overseeing Aspect Fine Homes in Arizona, his commitment is firm to the trade and art of luxury home building.

A Lost Trade

Many home building companies, even those branded as luxury home builders, use shortcut techniques and substandard materials. They may look amazing on that home walkthrough, but in just a few years, those inferior materials lose their luster and can diminish a home’s value. Aspect Fine Homes is different – it uses quality materials and smart building practices to build custom-created masterpieces.

Founder John Smieszek is committed to ensuring his luxury home creations are not cookie-cutter designs built with lesser-quality materials. This commitment has been inside him since he started working in the building trade in high school.

“I grew up in Naperville, Illinois, with a typical childhood, but I realized really early on that I was interested in building and the building trades,” said Smieszek. “I was fortunate enough to go to a high school that had a great building trades program, and my instructor had probably fifty years of experience in the trade. That gave me the opportunity to learn some techniques I may not have otherwise been exposed to.”

Smieszek’s education was so extensive, he had the opportunity to build an entire house during the course of his trade school education. “We had the opportunity to work on every phase of the home building process over the course of the two years of training. We would come in and physically complete the phase or work with a certified professional, like an electrician, to hold their hand and help through the process. We actually physically did the framing, installation in various bits and pieces, and other things. Ultimately, it got to the point where I was able to handle every piece of the process, and I was still a high school student.”

Smieszek’s experiences in high school led him to earn his Bachelor of Science in Construction Management at Southern Illinois University. He made Arizona his home shortly after college and spent more than a decade with Mladick Development before branching out on his own and founding Aspect Fine Homes.
